When Moses was on Sinai

The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty..."

fatdaddye: First confession: I needed to edit both the title and body to get the post right. I was so excited about the verse (Exodus 34:6-7ish) that I took if for a different scene in Exodus 33 without being careful about the context. The title was "When Moses asked to see God". b) I needed to close the quotes.

What does it mean?
Mark Driscoll used it at the end of sermon on election/predestination. I got really excited because it's easy mistake God's heart: "Jacob I loved, Esau I hated" makes me think "OK, I'm not God; but why does he hate Esau, I guess he just hates some people". So my heart was really ready to hear, from God, "I am the Lord, the Lord

a) merciful and gracious
b) slow to anger
c) abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness
d) keeping steadfast love for thousands
e) forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin
f) but who will be no means clear the guilty

I needed to hear all of those things. If you are asking what does this mean to "by no means clear the guilty", I don't really know. I could give it a shot, but it probably be wrong.
